Netanyahu helped ‘open doors’ in Trump administration for Hungary’s Orban — report

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government is reportedly worked to “open doors” in the Trump administration for the Hungarian government, which had been shunned by previous US administrations over Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s policies that have been criticized as anti-democratic.

According to a Channel 10 report, Orban asked Netanyahu during his visit to Budapest last year to help warm relations between Washington and his government.

Israeli officials told the TV station that Israel’s efforts paid off, and that several senior Hungarian officials had been hosted at the White House in recent months.

The report comes a day before Orban is set to visit Israel, a move that has come under criticism over the Hungarian prime minister’s attacks on Jewish billionaire George Soros — which critics say toys with anti-Semitic stereotypes — and his past praise for a former Nazi ally.
