Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a security assessment today at the IDF Central Command headquarters on “the security challenges” in the West Bank area, his office says.

The discussion was attended by Defense Minister Israel Katz, IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir and National Security Council head Shmuel Ben Ezra, as well as the heads of the military’s Central Command, Military Intelligence Directorate, Operations Directorate and West Bank Division, and other senior officials, according to the Prime Minister’s Office.

The assessment comes amid heightened tensions in the West Bank.

Yesterday, an Israeli man was moderately wounded in a stabbing attack near the Palestinian village of al-Auja in the Jordan Valley. The IDF later arrested a 16-year-old Palestinian male suspected of carrying out the attack.

The West Bank has also seen a surge in settler attacks on Palestinians and their property in recent months, including a siege on Palestinian homes in the village of Qusra. The rise in settler violence has reportedly led the IDF brass to warn the country’s political leadership that the area is on the brink of a violent escalation.
