President Reuven Rivlin tours the original Prime Minister’s Residence in Tel Aviv where Israel’s founding father David Ben-Gurion set up shop following the War of Independence.
Rivlin is accompanied by IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eisenkot during the tour of the residence, which is located in the Sarona compound across from military headquarters.
“I was born nine years before the State of Israel was established. This building symbolizes the establishment of the state and the establishment of the IDF,” Rivlin says in a statement, according to his office.
“Anyone born here, even those born before the State of Israel was established, comes into this house and is carried away by the history. It fills me with pride,” the president adds.
The residence, which is housed in a former Templar building, was renovated and opened to the public in September.
