Soldier was found lifeless yesterday in southern Israel, IDF says; immigrated from Canada to serve

A soldier was found lifeless yesterday morning in southern Israel, the IDF announces.

The Tzofim Garin Tzabar program, which assists young immigrants to draft to the IDF, identifies the soldier as Cpl. Benjamin Vais, 19, a lone soldier from Canada serving in the Givati Brigade who resided in Kibbutz Shluchot in northern Israel.

According to the IDF, an investigation has been opened into the circumstances of Vais’s death.

He will be laid to rest today in Beit Shemesh.
