US Secretary of State John Kerry is slated to speak with Prime Minister Netanyahu today to discuss the Iranian nuclear deal, US Under Secretary of State Wendy Sherman, who managed much of the Iranian nuclear talks, tells Israeli reporters.
She says that Israel has so far rejected any significant discussions about an increase in American defense assistance in wake of the agreement.
“The prime minister was not ready to have that discussion yet,” she says.
According to an earlier report in Israeli daily Haaretz, Netanyahu in April rejected an offer by US President Barack Obama to upgrade assistance, but Netanyahu did not want to make it look like Israel was okay with the nuclear agreement.
According to the report, Obama also brought up the discussion in a phone call with Netanyahu Tuesday.
