Yael Cohen-Paran becomes Knesset’s 32nd female member

MK Yael Cohen-Paran is Israel’s newest parliamentarian after being sworn in today as a lawmaker with the Zionist Union. She replaces Danny Atar, who was elected to head the JNF. She says she will promote social and environmental issues.

Cohen-Paran, 42, is one of nine women on the Zionist Union list and the 32nd in the current Knesset. She’s a veteran environmentalist and is head of the Israeli Energy Forum, a group advancing renewable energy.

“I enter my position as a member of Knesset with reverence for the honor and with determination to advance the concept of [environmental] sustainability,” she says in a statement.
