The nephew of Israel’s first-ever Arab Muslim police deputy commissioner was shot dead in the Galilee town of Kfar Kanna on Saturday.
Anan Hakrush, 48, was found alive in his car Saturday morning with multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body. He was rushed to the Poriya Medical Center in Tiberias, but was pronounced dead shortly after arriving.
Relatives told Haaretz newspaper that Hakrush, who has no prior criminal history, was likely killed in a family dispute, and termed his murder an “internal settling of scores.”
Police officers have opened an investigation into Hakrush’s death, and were combing the village and its surrounding area for a suspect.

Dep. Commissioner Hakrush heads a newly formed police division aimed at improving police services in Arab communities to combat high rates of domestic violence, murder and illegal weapons possession.
Also Saturday, a 46-year-old man from the Galilee village of Jadeidi-Makr was shot dead. Police have launched an investigation.
