An incident on a Tel Aviv beach that was first reported as a gang rape was actually consensual sex between an escort and a single john, police revealed Thursday.
A woman who called police to the scene said a group of youths were raping a woman who, she said, appeared to be mentally ill, while others at the beach stood by and did nothing. The activity was caught on video.
On Wednesday, police detained three suspects. On Thursday, however, when they questioned the woman, the 35-year-old escort told officers that she had willingly engaged in sex acts with one of the suspects, a 16-year-old, but that none of the others was involved.
Police are now treating the incident as the relatively minor crime of public indecency rather than rape.
