Aleli Admasu — an MK for a day

The newest Knesset member to be sworn in will barely get a chance to see his new place of work before heading back home again.
Aleli Admasu was slated to take up a seat for the Likud party on Monday as a replacement for Minister Yossi Peled, who resigned his seat to take up a position with the Eilat-Ashkelon Pipeline Company.
The 50-year-old father of seven, Admasu, 30th on the Likud list, was to be sworn in just as the Knesset was about to dissolve in preparation for new elections. Admasu will technically continue to serve as an MK until the elections in January 2013.
Admasu is not the first politician to have his time in the august halls of the Knesset cut extremely short.
According to Maariv, in 2006 MK Efi Oshaya (Labor) was sworn in to the 16th Knesset during a period when it was inactive due to coming elections. He replaced Haim Ramon, who had resigned. However, Oshaya resigned just half a day later citing a conflict of interest.
The 16th Knesset from 2003-2006 was notorious for producing short stints among the people’s representatives. Towards the end of the Knesset’s term several Labor MKs resigned to join the newly-formed Kadima party, and those who stepped in to replace them had scant weeks to enjoy their time in the corridors of power before the elections for the 17th Knesset.
