A 13-year-old boy was killed and three other people were seriously injured early Friday when a car crashed into a safety railing on a highway tunnel leading to Jerusalem, medics said.

“After attempts to resuscitate the boy, the Magen David Adom team was forced to declare him dead,” the rescue service said.

The driver apparently lost control and crashed into a barrier in the Arazim tunnel on the highway leading to Jerusalem.

A man in his 40s was trapped in the vehicle before being rescued and taken to the Hadassah Hospital Ein Kerem in a serious condition.

Two other passengers, in their 70s, were also hospitalized in a serious condition.

In a separate accident a man, said to be in his 30s, was killed when he was hit by a car while driving an electric bicycle near the West Bank Etzion bloc.

He was taken to a hospital in Jerusalem, but died of his wounds, Israel Radio reported.
