Blaze breaks out in Old City church

No casualties reported; some damage caused to paintings and ancient books

A fire broke out in a church in the Christian Quarter in Jerusalem’s Old City late Tuesday.

Six firefighting teams were called in to extinguish the blaze.

No one was injured, but some damage was caused to paintings and ancient books, Ynet reported.

Early reports suggest a lit candle fell on a table and sparked the blaze.
