Driver pulled over with unusual cargo: 62 kids

Man claims he was giving children tour of the area; police slam ‘Ramadan phenomenon’

Police stopped a man on a tractor Wednesday as he was driving in the northern Israeli town of Sha’ab while pulling an attached wagon caging an astonishing 62 children.

After spotting the peculiar sight on a routine patrol of the area, police directed the driver to pull over and proceeded to question him. The driver explained to the police that he was giving the children a paid tour of the area. The parents of the children were contacted.

Police confiscated the man’s license and expressed shock at the episode.

“This was a real endangerment of children, and I’ve never encountered anything like it,” said Misgav Region Chief Superintendent Maoz Ben-Sabo.

“This is a phenomenon typical of the month of Ramadan and the holidays that follow, during which crooks try to make money while endangering the public. And we are working in the Arab villages in order to prevent it,” he added.

Sha’ab is a small Arab town in northern Israel with a population of some 6,000.
