Elderly woman sets self on fire after arguing with husband
Victim in her 80s hospitalized in serious condition
A woman in her 80s set her self on fire Wednesday afternoon at her home in the city of Rosh HaAyin. She was admitted to Sheba Medical Center at Tel Hashomer in critical condition with second and third degree burns covering approximately 20 percent of her body.
The incident was apparently the result of a domestic dispute, not related to the recent wave of self-immolations that have been used to express social unrest.
After arguing with her husband, the woman reportedly poured alcohol onto her body and set herself on fire. Neighbors saw the fire in the couple’s apartment and rushed in to extinguish the flames. Police have opened an investigation into the incident.
Nir Granot, one of the paramedics who attended the scene said that when the woman was still conscious when they arrived, and first aid was administered before she was transported to hospital. Maariv reported that the woman was conscious at the hospital and talking with doctors.
