Four teens win in National Bible Contest

Will represent the United States next year at the international contest in Jerusalem on Israel Independence Day

(JTA) — Teens from the East and West coasts and the Midwest were crowned champions in the National Bible Contest.

The four winners took their divisions on May 6 at Yeshiva University in New York. They will represent the United States next year at the international contest in Jerusalem on Israel Independence Day.

The winners are Shalhevet Schwartz of New York, a student at SAR High School in the Riverdale section of the Bronx; Yishai Eisenberg of Passaic, New Jersey, a student of YBH of Passaic-Hillel; home-schooled Joshua Silvera of Los Angeles, affiliated with Congregation Mogen David in his city; and Allison Cohen of Shaker Heights, Ohio, affiliated with Congregation Bnai Jeshurun in Pepper Pike, Ohio, a Conservative synagogue.

In all, 115 students competed in Hebrew and English. The event was sponsored by the Jewish Agency for Israel.
