Deputy Knesset Speaker Danny Danon (Likud) has proposed an initiative to transfer MKs’ unused frequent flyer points to sick children and lone soldiers, his spokesperson said Thursday. Existing regulations state that MKs are unable to collect frequent flyer points from flights that were paid for by others.

“We are public figures who travel for professional meetings all over the world,” Danon said. “There are a large number of frequent flyer points going to waste,” he added, saying he had already spoken to El Al’s CEO, Eliezer Shkedy.

The plan suggests forming a Knesset frequent flyer account to which all points earned by MK’s will be transferred. A committee will be responsible for allotment of points, with sick children in need of treatment abroad, and lone soldiers eligible to visit family, forming the initial list.

After the Passover break the Knesset’s legal department will examine the proposed plan more closely, the Knesset’s spokesperson told Yedioth Ahronoth.
