An estimated 300 protesters marched through southern Tel Aviv late Thursday night. Denouncing the violence with which police broke up recent protests about the cost of living, they carried signs calling for the resignation of Tel Aviv Mayor Ron Huldai.

The protests were timed to counter the city’s “White Night Festival” of cultural activities, which suffered when several performers pulled out in response to the violence at last week’s demonstrations.

After Tel Aviv’s refusal to let social justice activists pitch tents on Rothschild Boulevard last week triggered widespread protests, the city decided on Tuesday to allow activists to pitch tents in a park near the central train station.

But that concession did not mollify the Thursday night protesters, who vowed to carry out more such actions in support of their demand for Huldai’s resignation.
