Intel unveils ‘best ever’ gaming processor, sired in Haifa
New family of desktop computer processors said to be faster and stronger than previous incarnations

Intel Corp. has unveiled a new family of desktop computer processors that are faster and stronger than its previous creations, the semiconductor giant said. The design of the new chips was led by its development team in Haifa, Israel.
The new family of 8th Gen Intel Core desktop processors is built for gamers and content creators and those who need high performing standards, Intel said. The new chips open “the door for a new level of faster, easier and more immersive experiences,” the US firm said in a statement released on Sunday. The chips include include the new Intel Core i7-8700K — which the firm touts as its “best gaming processor ever.”
Compared with 7th Gen Intel Core, gamers gain up to 25 percent more frames per second on popular and demanding games, Intel said, and its new processors are more accurate, faster, powerful and compatible than earlier versions, allowing for high quality of graphics creation and consumption. The chips also allow the editing of 4K 360-degree video “with ease” — and are up to 32 percent faster compared with previous generations. They can also edit content up to 65 percent faster compared with a 3-year old PC, the statement said.
As part of the new offerings, Intel has also launched the first-ever 6-core Intel Core i5 desktop processor and first-ever 4-core Intel Core i3 desktop processors with a wide range of performance options.
“We are laser-focused on giving the enthusiast community the ultimate desktop experience, from chart-topping performance to a platform that can flex with their needs,” said Anand Srivatsa, general manager of the Desktop Platform Group at Intel in the statement. “Our 8th Gen Intel Core desktop processors deliver tremendous improvements across the board and — for gamers, in particular — offer an unbeatable experience.”
The new generation of processors will be available beginning October 5, the company said.
This is not the first time that Intel’s R&D team in Haifa has led the design of the US giant’s processors. Last year the firm launched its “strongest and fastest ever” processor, the Kaby Lake, also sired in Haifa.
Intel has been operating in Israel since 1974 and directly employs around 10,000 workers in its Kiryat Gat production center and in four development centers, in Haifa, Yakum, Jerusalem and Petah Tikva. The Haifa center is Intel’s largest outside the US.
