The accomplished Israeli tennis team of Jonathan Erlich and Andy Ram won their doubles match on Saturday to give Israel a 2-1 lead over Japan in the World Group Play-off round of the international Davis Cup tournament.

The Israelis beat Japan’s Tatsuma Ito and Yuichi Sugita in three sets, with a final score of 5-7, 6-3, 6-1. Israel must now win one of two singles matches on Sunday to make it through and have a chance to play for entry into the prestigious World Group, comprised of the best tennis nations around the globe.

Sunday’s matches pit Israel’s top-ranked player Dudi Sela against Ito, and Amir Weintraub faces Japan’s Go Soeda.
