Israeli sharpshooter Sergy Rikhter on Thursday won the silver medal at the first meeting of the 2013 world cup tournament, held in South Korea. Fellow Israeli Lior Madlal placed ninth, narrowly missing the final eight.

Rikhter advanced to the final round from the fifth spot, where he finished 1.2 points behind his Chinese opponent, and 13.3 points ahead of the Hungarian who won the bronze.

The medal was Rikhter’s second major achievement of 2013, after he won gold and was named European Champion in March. Both medals came in Rikhter’s main discipline, shooting at targets 10 meters away while standing. On Saturday he will compete in his second (and less-strong) discipline, shooting from 50 meters out while lying down.

A relatively young shooter, Rikhter, 23, finished ninth at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, missing the final eight by only one point.
