Israeli judoka takes home silver in European championships

After defeating Romanian rival in 15 seconds, Ori Sasson loses to French Olympic champion Teddy Riner

Israeli judoka Ori Sasson won the silver medal in the European Judo Championships on Saturday, losing in the final to Frenchman Teddy Riner, an eight-time Olympic champion.

In the semifinals, Sasson defeated his Romanian rival within 15 seconds, Channel 10 reported.

Sasson won the silver medal in the same tournament last year.

The tournament was held in Kazan, Russia this year.

In August last year, Israeli judoka fighter Golan Pollack won the bronze medal in the under 66-kilogram weight class at the World Judo Championship in Kazakhstan, beating Tomorkholg Debadig from Mongolia with just five seconds on the clock.

In late June 2015, Israeli Sagi Muki took home gold in the under 73-kilogram weight class at the European Games in Baku, Azerbaijan, becoming the country’s first gold medalist at the inaugural games.
