El Al says Ukraine FM’s claim it is bypassing sanctions is false, ‘unfortunate’

El Al denies the Ukrainian foreign minister’s claim that it is allowing payments with Russia’s Mir system, thus bypassing international sanctions. It calls FM Dmytro Kuleba’s tweet “misleading” and says it halted payments through Mir on February 28.

“It is unfortunate that a simple check was not done with us before the misleading tweet, as the facts are entirely different,” the airline says.

It also notes that it has carried out flights of humanitarian aid to Ukraine, as well as helping get refugees to Israel.

“El Al is operating flights to Russia at the request of the Israeli government and we will continue to get Israelis and Jews out of Russia so long as it is possible.”
