Several far-right ministers blame the deadly terror attack in the southern West Bank on Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and call on him to reimpose widespread military roadblocks throughout the territory.
An Israeli woman was shot dead and a man was seriously wounded in a terror attack close to the southern West Bank city of Hebron.
The pair, both in their 40s, came under fire from a passing vehicle while driving on the Route 60 highway, close to the Beit Hagai junction.
Minister of National Missions Orit Strock, from the Religious Zionism party, blames the defense minister.
“Another bloody attack made possible just because of the lack of a decision. Roads in Judea and Samaria should not be a green light to terror,” she says referring to the West Bank by its biblical name.
“Defense minister, the decision is in your hands. Make it before the next attack,” she says.
National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir of the Otzma Yehudit party also calls the defense policy “too lenient.”
He demands that a meeting the security cabinet be called to address the issue of the roadblocks.
“We are in the midst of a wave of terror and our policy is too lenient,” he says.
We can't do this work alone.
The war with Iran has been draining for all of us in Israel. But when I heard about a high casualty incident – ballistic missile impacts in Arad and Dimona that left nearly 200 people wounded – I drank a cup of coffee, packed a bag, and headed south.
There, I spoke with Shilgit, the head of an after-school program for underprivileged youth. Standing outside her destroyed center, Shilgit said it was a miracle that no children were hurt and spoke about the community coming together in the hours since.
As a Times of Israel reporter, I’m committed to telling stories of resilience like Shilgit’s. But my colleagues and I can't do this alone.
