Fresh fires sparked by flaming objects flown from Gaza

Fresh fires broke out Sunday in communities near the Gaza Strip as a result of flaming airborne devices launched from the Palestinian enclave.

Firefighters extinguished the fire near Kibbutz Kissufim and were working to put out a pair of blazes near the farming communities of Be’eri and Nir Am.

Earlier in the day, a suspicious balloon landed in the yard of a home in the southern city of Sderot, police said. Police said officers arrived at the house and closed off the area following a report from a Sderot resident who saw the balloon land. Police sappers were called to the scene to inspect the suspicious object.

Sunday’s fires came a day after flaming objects flown from Gaza started 26 blazes in southern Israel.

Palestinian media reported that Israeli military aircraft fired warning shots on Saturday near a group of Palestinians in Gaza launching incendiary devices toward Israel. There were no reported injuries as a result of the warning shots east of Gaza City.
