Haifa oil refinery hit by debris from intercepted missile, Fire and Rescue Service says

An industrial building and a fuel tanker at the Bazan oil refinery in the northern city of Haifa were hit by debris from an intercepted missile, Israel’s Fire and Rescue Service says.

It is not immediately clear whether the missile was fired from Iran or Iran-backed Hezbollah terrorists in Lebanon. No casualties are reported.

The fire service says a direct hit was identified on a tanker parked within the factory grounds, causing thick smoke from the roof of a nearby structure. Firefighters are currently working to prevent the fire from spreading to additional areas while also searching for trapped individuals.

Energy Minister Eli Cohen says there was no damage to production facilities and that fuel supply will not be affected.

A senior firefighter tells the Kan public broadcaster that the tanker that was hit is on the periphery of the site and contains benzene, which is not dangerous. He says it will take several hours to extinguish the fire sparked by the attack.
