Iran: With Lebanon ceasefire, Hormuz is ‘completely open’

Iran declares that the Strait of Hormuz is “completely open” for as long as the ceasefire in Lebanon lasts.

The US-backed ceasefire began late yesterday afternoon local time.

“In line with the ceasefire in Lebanon, the passage for all commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz is declared completely open for the remaining period of the ceasefire,” writes Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on X.

However, he says that ships must sail “on the coordinated route as already announced” by Iran.

There has been a double blockade on the key waterway. Though it has attacked civilian ships in Hormuz, Iran has said the shipping lane is open to countries it approves, and that ships must pay a massive toll in order to transit.

Meanwhile, the US began blockading Iranian ports on Monday.
