An Israeli security source tells Reuters that Israel had “passed the message” on Sunday to Gaza’s Hamas rulers to make sure no rockets are fired at Israel during Sharon’s funeral, which is slated to begin at 2 p.m. at Sharon’s 1,000-acre Sycamore Farm only a few kilometers from the Gaza border.
“It was made clear to them that tomorrow would be a very bad day for anyone there to test Israel’s patience,” Reuters quotes the anonymous source.
There was no immediate response from Hamas, other Palestinian factions or Egyptian officials, who also share a border with Gaza and have served as mediators between Israel and Hamas in the past.
Two rockets were fired in the Gaza Strip on Monday morning, but the IDF said they were “test” fires, and landed inside the Gaza Strip.
The IDF has deployed Iron Dome batteries around Sycamore Farm.
