Israel reportedly rejects Turkish mediation, prefers Egypt

The Kuwaiti daily al-Jarida reports today that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is rejecting offers from Turkey to mediate a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. Jerusalem reportedly prefers that Egypt, if anyone, broker an understanding between the parties.

The Prime Minister’s Office declines to comment on the report.

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Thursday there can be no normalization of Turkish-Israeli ties as long as Israel continues its offensive in Gaza.

“You have to end this oppression. As long as it does not end, a normalizing of ties between Turkey and Israel is not possible,” claimed Erdogan.
