Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu lashes out at a former minister in his own party, accusing him of plotting against him.
While the premier doesn’t name the ex-minister, there is little doubt he is referring to Gideon Sa’ar, an erstwhile education minister for the ruling Likud party and a potential challenger to Netanyahu in future elections.
A report today in a newspaper that backs Netanyahu said the prime minister has been delaying a decision on bringing forward the 2019 elections, due to fears that President Reuven Rivlin could task someone else with forming a government.

The reported plot had reportedly originated from Sa’ar. Both Rivlin and Sa’ar denied the report.
“For the last few weeks I have known that a former Likud minister has been talking with coalition members and brewing a subversive plot, which would have me bring Likud to a sweeping election victory, and then it would be made sure I’m not appointed prime minister, against the public’s will, against democracy,” Netanyahu says at his 69th birthday party at his home.
