Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas calls for “an immediate end to the comprehensive aggression against the Palestinian people,” his office says following a meeting in Amman with Jordan’s King Abdullah II.
Abbas also rejects “practices related to killing civilians or abusing them on both sides,” emphasizing that “the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) renounces violence and adheres to international legitimacy, peaceful popular resistance, and political action as a path to achieving our national goals.” The PLO is a Palestinian political body chaired by Abbas that is opposed to Hamas.
He also warns of a looming humanitarian crisis in light of the Gaza Strip’s only power plant having stopped working due to a fuel shortage, which he warns could cause a cessation of health services, and calls for the opening of humanitarian corridors to provide water and electricity to the blockaded region.
