Edelstein, Katz, Sa’ar take top spots in Likud primary

Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein, Transportation Minister Israel Katz and former interior minister Gideon Sa’ar take the top spots on Likud’s slate after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, according to the final results of the ruling primary elections.

Netanyahu views Sa’ar as a potential replacement as party leader and had lobbied party members hard to push him down the list.

The Likud party has a strong lead in polls and is expected to win around 30 out of the Knesset’s 120 seats in the April 9 elections. With Netanyahu facing a series of corruption charges, the primaries have taken on added significance as an indicator of his potential successor within the party.
