Possible violent protests expected over hunger striker
Add ToI as a Preferred Source on GoogleAuthorities are gearing up for possible violent protests in Ashkelon tonight over the fate of a Palestinian detainee who has been on hunger strike for 61 days.
Protesters in favor of force feeding Mohammed Allaan under a new law, and others in favor of releasing him from administrative detention are expected to face off, Channel 10 news reports.
A violent protest would be a repeat of a clash last week, when the two sides fought outside Ashkelon’s Barzilai hospital.
Allaan has since lost consciousness and is breathing with the help of a machine. Doctors say he is in critical condition.
Palestinians have threatened violent protests should he die in Israeli custody.
