Five global leaders in the construction industry seek innovative startups

CEMEX Ventures, Ferrovial, Hilti, Vinci Group’s Leonard and Nova by Saint Gobain, launch Construction Startup Competition 2020

CEMEX Ventures, CEMEX’s open innovation and Corporate Venture Capital unit, launched the fourth edition of Construction Startup Competition. After the tremendous growth of its previous editions, Ferrovial, Hilti, VINCI Group’s Leonard, and NOVA by Saint-Gobain joined the competition with the objective of identifying startups that will lead the transformation of the construction industry.

The five industry leaders invite all entrepreneurs worldwide with innovative construction solutions to participate in this year’s edition by submitting their projects before July 26, 2020. Altogether, the companies identified five areas in which they will focus their search and consider investing in: smart cities and buildings, optimization of supply chain management, construction with innovative materials or methods, and optimization of productivity, efficiency, and quality in daily project management, among others.

The five key players joined 2020 Construction Startup Competition not only to support emerging startups, but also to help promote collaboration in an industry that has been resistant to change for many years. By combining their expertise and resources, they offer startups a real look into the industry’s current needs, and the opportunity to test and implement their solutions in a global scale.

The international presence of the five host corporations allows startups from anywhere in the world to participate in the competition, giving them the opportunity to scale and expand their business to new geographic markets. Moreover, they’ll gain access to relevant contacts in the industry and build connections with investors and companies focused on innovation.

“For the past three years we’ve been doing this competition on our own and have seen how more startups join the call each time. We have created an ecosystem of over 1,000 startups in 80 countries, and we trust that by having these leaders join us in Construction Startup Competition 2020, it will be easier to promote change, innovation and collaboration in the industry worldwide,” said Gonzalo Galindo, head of CEMEX Ventures.

Once all proposals have been evaluated, the most promising startups will engage in a further set of activities, like workshops, pilot projects and investment opportunities, that will allow startups to establish a relationship with industry decision makers. The winning startups will be invited to Chicago, US, to present their solutions to an audience of global leaders in innovation, investment, and construction, on December 2-3, 2020.

With the slogan “you are the missing piece,” the Construction Startup Competition 2020 aims to solve the most pressing challenges in the construction industry with the help of entrepreneurs and their hunger for innovation and desire to foster a more technological and sustainable sector.
