Police on Wednesday arrested a 34-year-old man on suspicion that he killed his ex-wife, 33, and set fire to her apartment in the northern city of Tiberias, after the woman’s headless body was found in the home.

Before his arrest, the man was seen walking, covered in blood, near the apartment, on the city’s Nahmani Street.

Eyewitnesses said the suspect was holding the woman’s head in his hands before throwing it into a dumpster.

Neighbors said the couple divorced several weeks ago and that the man was mentally unstable.

Police said they were first alerted to the scene by reports of the blood-covered man outside.

When they arrived they saw the apartment was on fire, and found the body inside.

Police did not immediately say if the woman’s head had been found.

They said the couple was childless.
