A two-year-old girl was crushed to death by a tractor on Tuesday in the Bedouin settlement of Tarabin in southern Israel.

The tractor driver fled the scene of the collision, which was near the girl’s home, Channel 2 News reported.

The toddler was taken to a local clinic where attempts at resuscitation failed.

“We went into the clinic and saw a toddler aged around two, who was unconscious, without a pulse, not breathing, with severe injuries to her head after being injured by a tractor,” two local employees of the Magen David Adom emergency services said.

“We… gave advanced respiratory treatment and resuscitation with the help of the medical team and in the end we had to declare that she was dead,” the medics said in a statement.

Police are searching for the driver.
