Tragedy in Kiryat Ekron

In an apparent double suicide, mother and son found dead in their home

In the latest episode of domestic violence and suicide to rock the Ethiopian community, a mother and son were found dead Saturday night in their home in Kiryat Ekron, a small town near Rehovot. They are survived by two younger children.

According to a report on the Ynet news website, one of the siblings and a neighbor discovered the bodies at around 7:30 p.m., after finding an inside door locked with no response from within. The  two were pronounced dead at the scene.

Rehovot police chief Yair Hetzroni was quoted as saying that it looked like a case of double suicide.

Israel’s Ethiopian community has been plagued of late by instances of domestic violence and suicide, as noted in this recent Haaretz report.
