The Hebrew University in Jerusalem hosted on Thursday Elana Kagan, an associate justice of the US Supreme Court. Kagan met with university president Professor Menahem Ben-Sasson, as well as Law faculty Dean Professor Barak Medina. She also visited the university’s Minerva Center for Human Rights.
According to a press release by the Hebrew University, Barak and Ben-Sasson discussed the possible development of a formal constitution in the state of Israel and the role the university plays in Israel’s legal system.
Kagan, who is Jewish, is only the fourth woman to serve on the US Supreme Court. A graduate of Harvard Law School, Kagan was appointed to the Supreme Court in 2010 as the replacement for retired Justice John Paul Stevens.
