An indictment was filed this week at the Haifa Magistrate’s court against a man accused of attacking passersby in the Haifa suburb of Kiryat Yam for no apparent reason.
The man, a resident of the city, was arrested two weeks ago after allegedly attacking random people he encountered on the street, while in possession of a fork, knife, and scissors.
Residents called police, who arrived at the scene and managed to subdue the man and arrest him. He has been charged with assault and causing bodily harm.
One of the residents told police he was on his way to the supermarket when he encountered the attacker.
“He held scissors and a knife in his hand in a threatening way, and without any reason or provocation from my side, he threw stones at me and threw punches at me,” the witness told investigators. “He was in a frenzy. He tried to stab me. Luckily I ran away from him.”
