An Iranian man convicted of building and maintaining pornographic websites will be imprisoned for life after his original death sentence was commuted, Iranian media reported Monday.
Saeed Malekpour, an Iranian-Canadian blogger and computer programmer, was arrested in 2008 on charges of “spreading corruption.”
Malekpour confessed in a live television broadcast that he had developed and promoted pornographic websites and was found guilty of corruption crimes in 2012.
An Iranian court sentenced Malekpour to death, but following an appeal and an expression of regret on his behalf, the severity of his sentence was reduced.
Mahmoud Alizadeh Tabatabaei, Malekpour’s attorney, on Monday assured Iranian state media that his client had sincerely “repented.”

Iranian media have called Malekpour the head of the biggest Persian-language network of pornographic websites, the Associated Press reported.
