At least one person was killed and about 15 people were injured when a lighting rig collapsed and fell on seating at Mount Herzl in Jerusalem on Wednesday afternoon, ahead of official Independence Day ceremonies there next week.

Rehearsals were under way for ceremonies when the lighting rig collapsed, first reports said.

The victim was a young woman, according to preliminary reports.

One of the injured was in critical condition, paramedics said, with the remainder suffering light injuries. All the injured were evacuated from the scene.

It was unclear what caused the lighting rig to collapse.
