A mansion with its very own mikveh

A video showing a Jerusalem home for sale garners interest from oglers galore

Jessica Steinberg covers the Sabra scene from south to north and back to the center.

Noticed this video in your Facebook feed recently? Titled “The Most Magnificent Villa in Jerusalem,” it’s been viewed more than 18,000 times.

That’s not quite viral, but it’s a lot of interest, said Jonathan Shebson, who owns Habitat Real Estate, the agency selling the mansion.

Located on Harakevet Street in the south Jerusalem neighborhood of Baka, the house is 800 square meters of prime, renovated Arab-style architecture, so-called for the mix of local, Middle Eastern designs in use in the area from the late 1800s through the early 1930s.

Arab-style features include high ceilings and arched windows. The house was purchased by a religiously observant American family who then redid the entire place, and it now includes terraces, an endless pool, a dining room that comfortably seats 30, a separate kitchen outfitted for Passover, six bedrooms and six full bathrooms, as well as a guest suite, gym, mikveh (ritual bath) and a glass elevator.

“They did a total gut job,” said Shebson.

He declined to share the asking price.

Unfortunately for the owners, who planned on using their Jerusalem home as their primary residence, they “made aliyah too late” for their kids, who went back to the US for college, Shebson explained. “They’ve been rattling around in it,” he said.

Don’t expect any free tours, though. said Shebson. The Vimeo video is the closest most of us will be getting to the inside of this house. Unless you get invited for dinner by the new owners.
