A mellow, happy scene at what has become an annual Jerusalem summer event

The tie-dye-wearing crowds were out in full force at the Jerusalem Woodstock RevIVal concert Thursday evening, along with the jugglers, hula hoopers, naked toddlers and revelers.

But it was the musicians who made the evening, a selection of native and immigrant Israelis, professional and weekend musicians who knew and loved the sounds they played in tribute to those three days at Woodstock in 1969.

The local Woodstock festival’s success shows that “sixties and seventies music just doesn’t die,” concert promoter Nadia Levene said last week. The festival began three years ago on the 40th anniversary of Woodstock itself. Concert producer Carmi Wurtman of 2b Vibes Music, organized the event, with proceeds benefiting American Football in Israel (AFI).
