Coldplay’s Chris Martin scopes out Israeli desert
Rock group’s frontman visits Tel Aviv, set to head south to the Negev — possibly in search of outdoor concert venue

Nothing has been finalized yet about a possible Coldplay concert in Israel, but frontman Chris Martin is currently in Tel Aviv, where he arrived Monday.
The Coldplay lead singer flew in from Mombai, where the band headlined the Global Citizen Festival.
A concert of that size — with 80,000 in attendance — was unprecedented in India; other headliners included rapper Jay Z and pop star Demi Lovato.
According to Channel 10 TV’s “Good Evening with Guy Pines,” Martin will be touring Israel’s south, and the hope is that he’s looking for sites for a possible Global Citizen Festival in Israel.
Martin is staying at the Norman Hotel, an exclusive, boutique Tel Aviv hotel.
The Coldplay frontman is the artistic director of the Global Citizen Festival, a position he’ll hold for the next 15 years. The festival is organized by the Global Poverty Project, with the aim of ending extreme poverty by 2030.
Fans can get free tickets to the festival, which features top musicians, by contributing to charitable acts on the Global Citizen website, watching videos and signing petitions.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also attended the Mombai concert, where the high note was Martin’s duet with A.R. Rahman, a noted Indian composer, singer and musician.
