Israeli firefighters battled warm temperatures and high winds Tuesday before finally gaining control of a forest fire west of Jerusalem along Highway 1.

Twenty-seven trucks and six planes fought the blaze between the villages of Abu Ghosh and Maale Hahamisha.

Temperatures in the area reached 34° C (93° F), with winds as high as 25 kph (16 mph).

Residents were not advised to evacuate their homes, but the road between Abu Ghosh and Kiryat Ye’arim was closed due to the fire.

Highway 1 had been closed earlier in the day, but was reopened.

In the southeast corner of Jerusalem, another fire broke out near the Gilo neighborhood, forcing a road closure and the evacuation of several homes.
