Hawaiian coffee shop singer to perform with Matisyahu
Ex-Orthodox reggae star asks legal authorities to allow busker, ‘on the run’ from police after violating probation, to leave Hawaii

After some legal maneuvering, the Hawaiian busker who became a viral hit after he was filmed performing the Matisyahu song “One Day” unaware that the ex-Orthodox reggae star was watching, will perform with Matisyahu during an upcoming concert in California.
In a video posted last week to his Facebook page, Matisyahu invited Kekoa Alama to perform with him on Friday, August 12 at the Hollywood Palladium in California. Alama, however, turned down the invitation, saying that he had violated his probation and was “on the run” from police, preventing him from leaving Hawaii.
In response, Matisyahu said he would help Alama, a ukulele player and singer, to perform in the show since Alama is “trying to create love and light for the world.”
On Monday Matisyahu announced that following a conference call with the judge in the case, Alama’s probation officer, the public defender and district prosecutor, Alama had been given permission to sing “One Day” at the concert.
Our friend Kekoa Alama,

Matisyahu was in Maui for a music festival in late July when he happened upon Alama singing one of his greatest hits at a local coffee shop. Holding a drink in his hand, Matisyahu joined in the singing.

At the end of the song, Matisyahu asked Alama, “You know who wrote this song?” and pointed to himself, leading to expressions of disbelief from Alama.
