The Iraqi military said on Saturday that it had killed 45 jihadists from the Islamic State terror group, including some senior figures, in an air strike in eastern Syria.

Iraqi F-16 fighter jets carried out a “successful strike targeting a meeting of Daesh [IS] leaders” on Friday in the Hajin region, in the eastern Syrian province of Deir Ezzor, a military statement said.

The raid occurred on Friday and destroyed three homes in the area connected by an underground tunnel, the statement added.

Among those killed included the group’s “deputy war minister,” one of its “media emirs,” the personal courier of IS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, and its chief of police, according to a Reuters report.
