The Israel Museum in Jerusalem, one of the country's major cultural institutions, is trying to find a new director (Hadas Parush/Flash90)
The Israel Museum announced Wednesday that Eran Neuman, recently appointed to head the museum, would not be assuming the director position after all.
Ayelet Shiloh-Tamir, currently the deputy director, will temporarily become the acting director.
The museum stated that Neuman had decided to remain in his position as head of the School of Architecture at Tel Aviv University, following differences of opinion over his role and terms of employment.
The museum said its committee would renew the search for a new director.
Neuman’s appointment was announced in January, following a nine-month search to find a successor to James Snyder.

He was assuming the newly created role of international president of the museum.
This would involve working with the network of International Friends of the Israel Museum, and building relationships with sister institutions and collectors worldwide.
