Israeli politicians depicted as Nazis, again

For the third time in two months, photoshopped images depicting Israeli politicians as Nazis were uploaded to social media sites, Walla news reported Wednesday.

Among those targeted in the social media campaign were Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Police Commissioner Yohanan Danino, Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon, Minister of Public Security Yitzhak Aharonovitch, Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein and Supreme Court Chief Justice Asher Grunis.

The caption below Grunis’s photo read, “Heil to the high court, die Jews, as long as I remain enlightened, and beautiful.”

The images were uploaded to a since-deleted Facebook page under the name Asher Iko, as well as the photo sharing site Picoolio, Walla reported.

The politicians were each depicted dressed in the distinctive black uniforms of the SS.

Danino immediately ordered an investigation by the police cyber unit to determine the source of the images.

An Israeli expat living in the US was identified as a main suspect in the publication of similar images on a Facebook page in November.

The pictures were reminiscent of a placard distributed at a protest rally in 1995 which depicted Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin as a Nazi, shortly before his assassination. That poster was seen as part of a general anti-Rabin atmosphere at the time that some said led to his killing.
