An Israeli soldier was seriously injured Wednesday in a stabbing attack at the al-Fawwar junction southwest of Hebron.

The soldier, who is in his 20s, was stabbed in his upper body.

He was evacuated by Magen David Adom medics to Jerusalem’s Shaare Zedek Hospital in serious condition, according to a first responder.

The attacker was shot and later died of his wounds.

The Palestinian Ma’an news agency identified the stabber as 19-year-old Muhammad Ismail Shubaki, a student at the Palestine Technical College.

MDA head Eli Bin told Israel Radio he spoke to the victim, who was conscious but at risk of his condition deteriorating quickly.

Clashes between troops and Palestinians briefly broke out at the site after the attack, according to news site Ynet.

The attack occurred at the same junction where an Israeli man was hit by a truck and killed after his car was pelted with stones last month, in a suspected terror attack.

The Hebron area has seen near daily stabbing attacks during the current round of violence, many of them targeting soldiers.

On Monday, an Israeli soldier was stabbed to death at a gas station on Highway 443 in the West Bank northwest of Jerusalem. A day earlier, a 21-year-old woman was stabbed to death at the Etzion Junction south of the capital.
