2 Turkish soldiers said killed in Kurdish attack

Two Turkish soldiers are killed in eastern Turkey in an attack blamed on the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) a day after the rebel group declared it suspended all offensive operations, Turkish media say.

The soldiers are killed during clashes with PKK fighters in the Senkaya district of Erzurum province, the Dogan news agency says, citing the local governor’s office.

A wide-scale operation is underway to capture the attackers, it adds.

The PKK announced it would suspend all attacks — except in self-defense — after months of attacks in Turkey, a move seen as an attempt to help the pro-Kurdish People’s Democracy Party (HDP) boost its standing in the upcoming election on November 1.
