Boy, 13, treated for possible rabies after stray dog bite in north

A 13-year-old boy is being vaccinated against the deadly rabies virus in northern Israel after being bitten by a stray dog.

The boy, from the Upper Galilee, was taken to a hospital in the city of Safed, treated and released, medics say.

The dog has not been found.

There has been a surge in rabies cases among animals in northern Israel in the last few months, prompting fears that it could spread to humans.
